Forget SatRad — New WiFi IP Radio Receiver

The guys into satellite radio think the new $399 Sirius Stiletto is all that, but they’re missing an important feature of this iPod-like device: It’s a WiFi receiver, capable of pulling in Internet radio streams.

If I can use this to listen to IP radio, which is where you’ll find the most compelling talk radio programming (including my show, if you live outside mid-Missouri), why would I need the satellite receiver and the subscription to Sirius?

For that matter, why doesn’t somebody offer a portable WiFi-only receiver for, say, $99? The fact that Sirius has included a WiFi receiver in its device — and is now offering an online-only service — says to me that IP radio, not satellite, is the wave of the future.
