Whose Side?

I defended the New York Times‘ decision to publish the story of the United States government’s program of monitoring money transfers through the SWIFT banking system. However, the paper’s decision to publish the photo below is nothing short of traitorous:

Joao Silva for The New York Times
A sniper loyal to Shiite cleric Moqtada al Sadr fires towards U.S. positions in the cemetery in Najaf, Iraq.

Towards U.S. positions? The Times photographer was present while this punk fired on U.S. soldiers, young men and women with parents and family here in the States! Journalistic integrity aside: How could the Times photographer just take pictures while an armed militant tried to kill Americans right in front of him?
