Onward, Christian Real-Time Strategy Game Soldiers

Thanks to Randolph James for pointing out this story: I’ve been hearing about this video game for awhile, but I waited to comment because I just wasn’t sure that “Left Behind: Eternal Forces” would be as violent as early reports indicated.

Well, it is:

Wage a war of apocalyptic proportions in LEFT BEHIND: Eternal Forces – a real-time strategy game based upon the best-selling LEFT BEHIND book series created by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. Join the ultimate fight of Good against Evil, commanding Tribulation Forces or the Global Community Peacekeepers, and uncover the truth about the worldwide disappearances!

  • Conduct physical & spiritual warfare : using the power of prayer to strengthen your troops in combat and wield modern military weaponry throughout the game world.
  • Command your forces through intense battles across a breathtaking, authentic depiction of New York City.
  • Control more than 30 units types – from Prayer Warrior and Hellraiser to Spies, Special Forces and Battle Tanks!
  • Play multiplayer games as Tribulation Force or the AntiChrist’s Global Community Peacekeepers with up to eight players via LAN or over the internet!

Hey, that’s great. Kids, clear the path to salvation with an M1 carbine! And if salvation’s not your bag, play the game as the Antichrist!

This game will undoubtedly do big business. Left Behind Games’ advisory board includes the director of sales for Microsoft’s Xbox, a senior VP for Ivy Hill/Warner Media Services, and Mark Carver, a former investment banker who now serves as Executive Director for Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Ministries.

Expect this game to be marketed directly through Warren’s network of Purpose Driven churches. The combination of “Purpose Driven” and “Left Behind” spells big money. But while the love of money driving the development of this game is reprehensible enough, the dominionist theme of this game is worse. Nowhere in the New Testament did Jesus command His followers to convert heathens at the point of a weapon.

  1. I wonder if you can force believers to give there tith to the Dominion, I mean Purpose, Driven chruch at gun point in the game.

  2. Hey Derek, how about a shout out for pointing out the story? I’m a small blog
