Freedom Requires Turning Off the Cartoons

When you hear the phrase “freedom isn’t free”, it doesn’t necessarily mean volunteering for the military. Sometimes it means just attention:

Americans apparently know more about “The Simpsons” than they do about the First Amendment.

Only one in four Americans can name more than one of the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment (freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly and petition for redress of grievances.) But more than half can name at least two members of the cartoon family, according to a survey.

You can’t know your rights if you don’t know the Constitution. And the Constitution is intended to limit government, not to grant you rights. Your rights are automatic, granted by God because you’re created in His image–whether you believe in Him or not.

Here’s a free one: The right to privacy, from which the Supreme Court manufactured a “right” to kill unborn children, isn’t in there.
