I respect the American flag and the ideals for which it stands. But a constitutional amendment to ban burning the flag?
No. We’re losing sight of the big picture here.
I would never burn the flag and dishonor the memory of those who died for it. Besides, there are other, more literate ways to express my discontent. I even favor legislation at the local or state level making flag burning a misdemeanor.
Elevating a ban on flag burning to the level of a constitutional amendment smacks of a creepy cult of state worship. Sorry, can’t go there.
