Look Out, Cardinals!

The Cubs are over .500 for the first time in a month–and that’s without Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Aramis Ramirez, Nomar Garciaparra, and Todd Walker for extended periods. The faithful still have hope!

Joe Borowski is back and LaTroy Hawkins is gone *dance of joy*. Aramis is getting hot, Neifi Perez is making us forget about Nomar, and the bullpen is getting unexpected help from Wellemeyer, Ohman, and Wuertz.

7-1/2 games out? No problem.

  1. Yeah, I bet Larussa is losing sleep.

  2. Sorry, Derek. Actually, I’m more jaded than a smart aleck when it comes to the Cubs.
1984,1989,1998,2003 and all the years of frustration in between. Since moving to east
Texas ten years ago (the same summer the local cable company dropped WGN) we’ve also
beome Rangers’ fans. Keep your eye on these kids I think they’re going to be good.

What do you think about the idea that the Cubs move Wood to closer when he comes back?
At least for the rest of the season.

  3. No offense taken. I’m the token Cubs fan in an office full of Cardinals. (Well, we do have one Giants fan here, and we’re not quite sure what’s wrong with him.)

I think running Wood out every other day for an inning at a time is probably a better idea than watching the kid self-destruct. Dempster would be a fine fourth or fifth starter. (Maybe they should have kept Farnsworth and tried him as a #5.)
